Frisco City Hall, Library to undergo roof replacement beginning in August

(July 25, 2019) Beginning in August, Frisco residents and library patrons will see scaffolding framing the outside of the city’s municipal center in downtown. That’s when contractors will begin replacing the roof over city hall and the Frisco Public Library. Contractors will also make repairs to the building’s envelope, which is important for efficient insulation. The roof replacement and other repairs are necessary due to water leaks.

During repairs, access to building entrances will be impacted. There will be occasions when the building may only be accessed from one side, north or south.  Knowing which entrance is open may help patrons decide where to park. Such information will be posted on the homepage of the city and library websites. Patrons are also encouraged to follow city and library social media accounts for updates. Otherwise, signage will be posted outside the building for customers’ convenience.

Aside from scaffolding, residents will notice barricades and tarps being utilized during repairs.  Protective ‘tunnels’ will be built to shield patrons as they enter, exit the building. Texas Roof Management is also providing a full time, onsite safety officer to monitor all repairs.

The repairs are expected to take between 6 – 8 months to complete.  The contractor will schedule work in a manner to reduce conflicts with the front of the building and the annual holiday light display.

“We’re still open for business,” said Mack Borchardt, Special Assistant to the City Manager. “We’re asking residents to excuse our mess in advance; we apologize for any inconvenience.  We appreciate your patience, support and understanding during this project.”

Total cost of repairs is $2.1 million.  The expenditure was approved by the Frisco City Council during its July 2 regularly scheduled council meeting.
