Frisco Fire Deploys New Wildland Paramedic Unit to Wildfires

(August 18, 2019) Frisco Fire Department has deployed the first of its kind, a Wildland Paramedic Unit (WPU) to the Copper Breaks Fire near Quanah, TX upon request from the State of Texas as a part of the Texas Interstate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) in coordination with the Emergency Medical Task Force (EMTF). The crew left Central Fire Station around 05:30 this morning to meet up with a Strike Team near Quanah.

The 5,000 acre Copper Breaks Fire is in Hardeman County and is about 20% contained.

The WPU is a new program that consists of two individuals cross trained as Paramedic/Wildland Firefighters, staffed in a SUV/Pick-Up equipped with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) capabilities to provide medical support to firefighters battling wildland fire.

Crews may be deployed for up to seven (7) days.
