(August 15, 2018) The intersection of Legacy Drive and Main Street will reopen this evening (August 15) after 6:00 p.m. in a new configuration that will change how motorists drive through it. This innovative type of intersection, called a “Single Point Urban Interchange,” takes a widely divided intersection operating with two traffic signals and compresses it into one large intersection where all movements are controlled by one traffic signal. When navigating the new intersection, never stop in the middle of the intersection. It may seem like a long way, but the signal is timed to give you enough time to get across the entire intersection.
Parts of the intersection are still under construction so it will open with one left-turn lane in each direction with a second left-turn lane opening in the near future. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone and to pay special attention to the new location of stop bars and traffic signal indications until they become accustomed to the new traffic patterns.
If you are not already familiar with this type of intersection (which exists at the intersections of US 75 at Eldorado Parkway in McKinney and US 75 at Parker Road in Plano), click here to read a description of how the new intersection operates.
