(September 26, 2024) The Frisco Police Department has arrested a subject who failed to identify himself and later evaded on foot.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at approximately 1:13 p.m., an FPD officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Preston Road and Stonebrook Parkway on a vehicle that ran a red light. The driver of the vehicle pulled into a parking lot on the east side of Preston and upon contact, verbally identified himself with a name and date of birth later found to be fictitious. Through investigation, the officer was able to identify the subject as 34-year-old Daniel Ryan Keith. Additionally, the officer found that Keith had a probation violation warrant for an offense involving family violence, and information from a previous call involving him indicated that he was known to carry a weapon.
While waiting for backup to arrive, the officer observed Keith exit his vehicle. Despite orders to remain in the car, Keith fled across Preston toward First Frisco Global Methodist Church, located at 7659 Preston Road. Officers pursued and maintained a visual on Keith before losing him on the southside of the church. Speaking with church staff, they confirmed that he had entered the main building.
Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter while other personnel contacted the church’s preschool, which was immediately put on lockdown and secured. Upon determining that Keith was isolated in a building separate from the preschool, a plan for student pick up was coordinated with the staff, who sent the information to parents. Officers then held the perimeter until all of the children had been released.
Once the school building had been cleared and Frisco SWAT had arrived on scene, attempts were made to contact Keith by phone to have him surrender. Unable to make contact, a methodical search of the main building began, which included a room-by-room search using drones. During the search, information was received that indicated that Keith was hiding in the ceiling of a specific portion of the building. A short time later, SWAT teams made contact with Keith, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Keith was later transported to the Frisco Detention Facility, where he was booked-in on the outstanding warrant out of Montgomery County, and charged with Ran Red Light, Expired Registration, Fail to ID as a Fugitive, and Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot. Bond for the warrant and charges totaled $53,000.
“I’d like to express my appreciation for the skill, patience, and resolve exhibited by the officers in this incident,” said Frisco Police Chief David Shilson. “By quickly establishing a perimeter, utilizing the tools available to them, and collaborating with the church staff, their actions contributed to the capture of this subject while ensuring the children returned home to their parents safely. I’d also like to thank the church staff for their quick thinking and assistance, which most certainly contributed to a positive outcome in this incident.”
“This incident underscores the need to provide our officers with excellent tools and training, and I’m thankful for the unwavering support for public safety provided by our city leadership and community.”
