[ARCHIVED] Traffic Advisory: PGA Tournament Wednesday-Sunday, May 24-28 (Lane closures start night of May 21)

(May 18, 2023) The Senior PGA Championship Tournament will be held at PGA Frisco Wednesday through Sunday, May 24-28 (and could extend into Monday, May 29, if delayed by weather).  Traffic patterns near PGA Frisco will be altered starting Sunday night, May 21, including a traffic shift on PGA Parkway between Championship Drive and Legacy Drive.  During the tournament, there will be increased traffic around Toyota Stadium where most attendees will park and be shuttled up to the event; and there will be delays on PGA Parkway near the event due to lane closures and the checking of credentials to enter cordoned areas.  Local traffic should avoid traveling eastbound on PGA Parkway between Championship Drive and Legacy Drive between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on tournament days.  The specific details are described below and shown in the maps.

Event Parking (May 24-28)

Players, officials, vendors, and others with VIP parking credentials have been given instructions to park in various lots located on and around PGA Frisco.  All other attendees must park in the Red Lot on the west side of Toyota Stadium and ride shuttle buses  to the PGA Tournament.  No general parking is provided near PGA Frisco and no event parking is allowed in any neighborhood.  As shown in the attached Parking Map, the entrance to the general parking is located on the north end of the Red Lot on Technology Drive.  Motorists from the north can use Frisco Street to approach the entrance, motorists from the south can use the northbound Dallas Parkway frontage road, and those approaching on Main Street can go north on World Cup Way.  Shuttle buses will start operating on Wednesday, May 24, at 6:45 a.m.

For parking information, and to pre-purchase general parking at a discount, click here to visit the PGA website.  After purchasing general parking, those with ADA permits can park in Lot C located at Lone Star High School where ADA shuttle buses will be provided.

All rideshare activity will drop-off and pick-up in Lot V located at Panther Creek High School next to PGA Frisco.  Those leaving the event must walk to Lot V before requesting a ride.

Lane Closures/Traffic Switch (May 21-28)

The south half of PGA Parkway will be closed during the tournament to accommodate shuttle bus and other tournament activity.  The lanes will close Sunday night, May 21, at 9 p.m. and will remain closed for a week.  They are expected to open Sunday night, May 28 (unless the tournament is extended into Monday due to weather).  During this partial road closure, eastbound PGA Parkway will be reduced to one lane as it approaches Championship Drive on the west side of PGA Frisco.  After crossing through the traffic signal, eastbound traffic will be switched to the north half of the road.  Eastbound and westbound traffic will share the north half of the road, separated by cones.  Eastbound traffic will switch back to the south half the road before reaching the traffic signal at Legacy Drive (see attached Lane Closure Map).  Access to the Omni Hotel will be limited to its eastern driveway on PGA Parkway.

Beginning Wednesday, May 24, the single lane of traffic on eastbound PGA Parkway will be used by all shuttle buses and other credentialed event vehicles to enter the cordoned area.  Regular traffic and credentialed traffic will be split by officers just east of the Championship Drive traffic signal.  Regular/local traffic should expect delays in the eastbound direction between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. each tournament day (May 24-28) and is advised to use an alternate eastbound route such as University Drive (US 380) or Panther Creek Parkway.

Due to parking activity, local drivers should also avoid the intersection of Main Street and Dallas Parkway during the mornings of each tournament day.

Local drivers are urged to seek an alternate route in advance.  Visitors and residents can use the Waze app to navigate in and out of the Toyota Stadium and PGA Frisco areas.  The app will provide navigation assistance based on real-time road closure and traffic flow information.
