[ARCHIVED] Simpson Plaza Closed Friday Night, Coleman Blvd Closed Saturday for Special Event

(April 27 2023) Several streets within Frisco Square will be closed starting Friday evening (April 28) and more will close Saturday morning (April 29) for a special event.  All of the roads will reopen by 9 p.m. Saturday night.  The specific road closures are shown on the attached map and described below.

  • Friday, April 28, 7 a.m.: The parking spaces on the north side of Simpson Plaza will be blocked for event set up.
  • Friday, April 28, 6 p.m.: The roads around Simpson Plaza will be closed and will remain closed on Saturday as well.
  • Saturday, April 29, 6 a.m.:  Coleman Blvd, the main entrance to Frisco Square, will be closed.
  • Saturday, April 29, 9 a.m.:  All roads will reopen.

Starting Friday evening, traffic will not be able to enter and circulate around the majority of the Plaza.  Only traffic approaching from the west will be able turn right at the Plaza in order to reach the city parking garage.  There will be no vehicular access to the front of City Hall during this time (and the building is no longer open on Saturday because the public library has moved to its new location).  Starting Saturday morning, traffic will not be able to drive in front of the buildings on Coleman Blvd but can access the parking areas behind the buildings by using other driveways from Main St.  During these road closures, Frisco Square residents, customers, and those attending the event, will need to take alternate routes to their destinations (see attached map).

The following groups should use World Cup Way or the driveways along Main St to access the parking areas behind the Frisco Square businesses:

  • Special event participants
  • Business traffic on Coleman Blvd
  • Residents who live north of the plaza

Customers and special event participants can park in one of two free parking garages by following one of the routes shown on the attached map.  They can turn on World Cup Way from Main St or use northbound Dallas Pkwy or John W. Elliott Dr to reach Page St which runs behind the municipal parking garage.

Customers of Pizzeria Testa should use World Cup Way (or use northbound Dallas Pkwy and turn right onto Frisco Square Blvd) to reach the front of the restaurant.  Customers can also park in the municipal parking garage.

As a reminder, drivers can also use the Waze app to navigate around road closures.  Click here to learn about Waze or install it on your smartphone.
