(April 3, 2023) The traffic pattern changed today for eastbound Main Street at 1st Street. The road was restriped so there is one left-turn lane and one through lane at 1st Street. This means all traffic on eastbound Main Street must merge into one lane west of the railroad tracks. Any traffic wanting to turn left onto 1^st Street can move over into the left-turn lane.   See  map (PDF).

Motorists are urged to use caution in this area as people become accustomed to the new traffic pattern.

 This striping change simplifies vehicle interactions at the 1^st Street intersection. It also simplifies the way eastbound traffic merges into one lane as it enters historic downtown.  This change also anticipates the pavement changes coming to Main Street when it is reconstructed to provide wider sidewalks. That work begins in about a year.
