Next Phase of Elm Street Reconstruction in Downtown begins November 14

(November 14, 2022) The next phase of the Elm Street reconstruction project starts this week, weather permitting, on Monday, November 14.  These closures are expected to remain in place for about four weeks at which time a different lane closure will be announced. Detour signs will be posted.  These closures are described in more detail below and shown on the map (PDF):

Elm Street will remain closed between 1st and 2nd Streets.

  • Both directions of Elm Street remain closed between 1st Street and 2nd Street.  Residents on that block can access their homes from Half Elm Street.
  •  Southbound traffic on 1st Street wishing to turn left onto Elm Street will be detoured to Pecan Street.
  • Westbound traffic on Elm Street will be detoured up 2nd Street to Main Street.

Southbound 2ndStreet will be closed at Half Main Street.

  • Southbound 2nd Street will be closed between Half Main Street and Half Elm Street.
  •  All traffic on southbound 2nd Street will be detoured onto Half Main Street and can use 3rd Street to go south.

Eastbound Elm Street will be closed between 5th Street and South County Road.

  • This includes closing the south half of the Elm Street intersections with 6th Street and 7th Street.
  • Westbound Elm Street will remain open, but no traffic will be able to cross Elm Street on 6th or 7th Streets.
  • Southbound traffic on 6th and 7th Streets will be detoured onto westbound Elm Street and can use 5th Street to go south.
  • Northbound traffic on 6th and 7th Streets will be detoured onto Pecan Street and can use South County Road to go north.
  • Only local traffic will be allowed on 6th and 7th Streets north of Pecan Street.

Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone and to seek an alternate route in advance.  Use the Waze app to navigate around road closures. Click here to learn about Waze or install it on your smartphone.

This is one of the phases of the project that will reconstruct the entire length of Elm Street to create a concrete street with continuous gutters, parallel parking spaces, sidewalks, and street lighting.  Find more information at  Downtown Street Improvements and Plaza Project | Frisco, TX - Official Website (friscotexas.gov).
