Northbound 1st St. closed at Pecan St.; Elm St. closed between 1st and 2nd Streets starting Oct 20

(October 19 2022) The next phase of the Elm St. reconstruction project starts on Thursday, October 20.  Southbound 1st St. will reopen to traffic and northbound 1st St. will be closed. In addition, Elm St. will be closed between 1st and 2nd Streets. These closures are expected to remain in place for about 4 weeks at which time a different lane closure will be announced.  These closures are described in more detail below and shown on the attached map (PDF).

  • Northbound 1st St. will be closed to all traffic between Half Elm St. and Frisco Square Blvd.  Only local traffic will be allowed north of Pecan St. to reach Half Elm St.  All through traffic on northbound 1st St. should turn right on Pecan St. and use 2nd St. to go north. Detour signs will be posted.
  • Both directions of Elm St. will be closed between 1st St. and 2nd St.  Residents on that block can access their homes from Half Elm St.  Southbound traffic on 1st  St. wishing to turn left onto Elm St. will be detoured to Pecan St.  Westbound traffic on Elm St. will be detoured up to Main St. Detour signs will be posted.

Drivers are urged to use caution in the construction zone and to seek an alternate route in advance.

This is the second phase of the project that will reconstruct the entire length of Elm Street to create a concrete street with continuous gutters, parallel parking spaces, sidewalks, and street lighting.  The street will typically be closed one block and one direction at a time as the project progresses.  Click here for more information regarding the Downtown Street Improvements Project.
