[ARCHIVED] Four Future Parks Get Names; Two Others Up For Citizen Input

Frisco's Parks Naming Committee recently received City Council approval for the names of four new parks sites, and Play Frisco is currently asking for input on two other developed parks --Northeast Community Park and First Street Park. The deadline to submit names is Jan. 8 at 5 p.m. Go to our website to learn about the park naming process and how to submit your ideas.

These Future Parks Now Have Names!

Persimmon Park
This 2.3-acre undeveloped park site is located in the southeast section of Frisco Square near City Hall. The site was planned with public input and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2021. The name reflects the plentiful and popular persimmon trees that grew in the Frisco downtown area in the mid-1800s to early 1900s.

Buffalo Ridge Park
This undeveloped 7.6-acre park site is located within The Grove residential development near by Custer Road and Main Street. This future park is in the department’s 5-year development plan. The name reflects its high elevation and the buffalo known to once migrate through Frisco.

Frisco On the Green Park
This 3-acre undeveloped park site is located adjacent to the Hollyhock residential development near Rockhill and Teel Parkways. Master planning for this park will begin with public input in mid-December. The name was chosen for its proximity to the PGA of America national headquarters and its golf courses.

Iron Horse Trail
Commonly referred to as the Sonntag Trail and the USCOE 1135 Trail, this trail extends along Stewart Creek from the future Grand Park site to B.F. Phillips Community Park and extends westward to Lake Lewisville. This future trail is in the department’s 5-year development plan. The name references the steam engine locomotive and Frisco’s strong railroad history.
