Every morning before school, when the alarm on his clock-radio went off in Rusk, TX, Matt James awoke to the sounds of the only radio station that came in clear in his bedroom: KNUE - one of East Texas' largest country stations. In between the sounds of the morning show, he was treated to country's biggest hits from the last 30 years, and slowly learned to love the words to every song and the twang of a steel guitar. In the truck on the way to school, mixed CD's filled with rock and roll. Everything from AC-DC to ZZ Top came crashing through the speakers and rattled between his ears, down to his soul. This mixture of rock and country eventually seeped right into his blood, and at the ripe young age of 20 years old, he helped found the band, Blacktop Mojo. Listen to his music on Apple Music and Spotify.
A Canton, TX based singer-songwriter, Mila Rae’s (pronounced m-ï-la) honey-like voice and melancholic melodies envelops listeners in a warm embrace of the Americana sound. Think Kacey Musgraves sound meets Lana Del Ray stories. Mila Rae uses a delicate vocal tone and intentionally intimate lyricism to illustrate the peaks and valleys along the highway of life. Mila Rae spent a little time in West Texas, where she placed as a finalist in the Bluelight Live Singer Songwriter Competition in 2021, as well as a finalist in Randall King’s Songwriter Competition in 2022. Her latest single, She Ain’t Me, was released by Smith Music in September 2023. Listen to her music on Apple Music and Spotify.
Shea Abshier & The Nighthowlers are a rock band bringing a huge sound with hard-hitting lyrics. Their high energy show and natural chemistry on stage creates an unforgettable experience for fans. For this Calaboose concert, Shea will be performing solo. Listen to Shea Abshier & The Nighthowlers on Apple Music and Spotify.
