The City of Frisco adopted a Short-Term Rental (STR) ordinance with an effective date of January 4, 2022. City Staff is creating an online permit portal for registering STRs. Until all services related to the permitting process are complete, the City will not consider STRs in violation of the permitting requirements. We expect that these services will be available early summer 2022.
The creation of the permit program is in response to heightened community interest and concern. The Ordinance is intended to strike a balance between welcoming visitors to Frisco and improving responsiveness to neighborhood concerns associated with STR properties.
What is an STR?
STRs include single-family homes, garage apartments, duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, and multifamily units. If you rent your home or other dwellings for less than 30 days, you will be required to obtain a STR permit.
Hotel Occupancy Tax
If you are a short-term rental operating after the effective date of the Ordinance, you are required to collect and remit Hotel-Motel-STR occupancy taxes monthly through the process provided by the Financial Services Department.
