Franziska Haarmann - Bio

ARTIST STATEMENT

Being a scientist I am interested in nature and people. I am amazed by the beauty and complexity of this planet and its inhabitants. The human body fascinates me. I am curious about people’s stories, their inner lives and what drives them. I think of my work as a celebration of life and I want it to be beautiful. Life can be hard and ugly – with losses and disappointments. I am personally concerned -my beautiful daughter is suffering from a progressive metabolic disorder and I am condemned to watch how this illness is slowly destroying her body and mind. Creating art helps me see beyond my personal tragedy. Human portraits are my main focus. I work to capture both the uniqueness and the personality of the subject. My painting style is realistic and my work is based on a combination of photographs I have taken and pictures of other sources.
