Consider turning your controller to "OFF’" or check your rain/freeze sensor. Now might be a good time to have your sprinkler system checked by our irrigation specialist.

Notice to the NTMWD Service Area: Winter Algal Bloom at Lake Lavon

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) has confirmed that a winter algal bloom is occurring in Lavon Lake, a major water supply reservoir for the NTMWD. Taste and odor changes in treated drinking water caused by blooms may be detected by consumers who are more sensitive to these changes... read more

‘Tis the season for wintry weather!

Falling snow flurries and icicles add an extra excitement to each year. They also offer a reminder of a few precautions everyone should take before heading indoors for warmth.

Follow These Winter Weather Tips

-          Turn off your sprinkler system to avoid potentially hazardous conditions for our streets and sidewalks when temperatures reach freezing. Plants and landscapes require very little or no water this season.

-          If necessary, water during warm mid-day hours.

-          Add a 2-4 inch layer of protective mulch to the soil around your trees and plants to prevent a freeze.

-          Cover plants during a freeze with an anchored sheet.

-          Check for sprinkler system inefficiencies before next spring by scheduling a free winter irrigation check-up.

-          Wrap exposed pipes located outside or in unheated areas of the home.

-          Detach garden hoses from outside faucets. Insulate outside faucets with a Styrofoam cover, rags or paper.

-          If a water line breaks and the cut off valve does not work, the Public Works Department is available to turn of the water. Call the Public Works 24-hour line at 972-292-5800.

“Fall Back” on Your Watering

Making seasonal adjustments for cooler and wetter weather is a simple way to reduce water waste and keep your landscape healthier as it goes dormant this winter.

This winter adjust the settings on your sprinkler system. If necessary, water only once-per-week on your trash day or simply turn your controller “OFF” unless Frisco’s weekly watering updates recommend additional watering.

Did you know?

The City of Frisco receives its treated water supply from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD). The NTMWD supplies water to approximately 1.6 million people in 13 member cities and 57 customers in seven counties.

Five surface water supply sources make up the NTMWD reservoir system that supplies our treated water supply. The primary source is Lavon Lake with other reservoirs supplementing Lavon Lake. Additional sources include: Jim Chapman Lake, Lake Texoma, Lake Tawakoni, and the East Fork Raw Water Supply Project (Wetland).
