Water Supply Update, Restrictions, and Zebra Mussels in Lake Texoma
While grateful for the rain, it is important to note that due to the Zebra Mussel infestation, the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) still cannot pump from Lake Texoma which normally provides 28% of the total water supply for the district.
The district’s Stage 3 restrictions will remain in effect. Frisco will continue offering weekly watering recommendations based on the city’s weather station and local rainfall data.
Officials with NTMWD are monitoring the inflow of rain runoff into Lakes Lavon and Jim Chapman, water supplies utilized by the district. The district will also review short-term forecasts and other data to determine if the current water management measures can be relaxed while still planning for the long-term needs of its consumers.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), which manages the water level of Lavon Lake, will release water as needed based on long standing flood control procedures. Releases will not occur when levels return to the normal conservation pool of 492 feet msl.
Frisco’s Stage 3 restrictions limit landscape watering at each service address to once every seven days (if necessary) based on location within the residential trash collection zones. Non-residential customer watering days are based on location within the residential trash collection day zone. Outdoor watering with a sprinkler system is not allowed between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. and between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time.
