UTILITY CREWS CLEARING NATURAL GAS LINE TODAY, MAY 16

(May 16, 2013) This morning, May 16, Atmos Energy crews will be clearing (or flaring) a natural gas pipeline between 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (noon)  at its old Collin Plant, north of Rock Hill Rd.  Crews are replacing a section of pipeline, which may require a controlled ‘flaring’.

As a result, residents and passersby may see a large flame (or flaring) and hear moderate noise for approximately one hour.

Atmos reports, “‘flaring’ is a standard industry practice to safely burn natural gas that must be removed from a specific section of pipeline so employees can work on the pipe”.
