(July 2, 2010) Frisco’s Freedom Fest on Saturday, July 3, will include a festival in Simpson Plaza in the heart of Frisco Square and a soccer game at Pizza Hut Park followed by a fireworks show. These events will require the closure of several streets in and around Frisco Square and will create heavy traffic loads that make it necessary to close eastbound Main Street at 10 p.m. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area. Free event parking is available in the blue areas shown on the attached parking map.
The successive roadway closures are summarized in the attached road closure map and are described below:
- The streets around City Hall will be closed starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 2, and will remain closed all day Saturday, July 3. Frisco Square Boulevard will be closed between World cup and Frisco Street, which includes the plaza in front of City Hall. In addition, Library Street will be closed between Page Street and Frisco Square Blvd. The Library will be closed during these road closures, but the book drop behind the building will be accessible to residents who approach the building on Page Street.
- All day Saturday, July 3, the west Frisco Square Parking Lot will be reserved for event staff with parking passes. No public parking will be allowed in this parking lot. Due to the festival, the weekly Farmer’s Market will be located in the East Frisco Square Parking Lot east of Lochrann’s Eatery & Irish Pub. Throughout the morning, customers will be able to access the East Parking Lot by using Coleman Boulevard or the driveway that connects to Main Street.
- Coleman Boulevard will be closed starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, and will remain closed for the rest of the day. After 2 p.m., residents and customers will only be able to turn into the East Parking Lot by using the driveway that connects to Main Street that is located east of Lochrann’s.
- Frisco Street will be closed between Main Street and Technology Drive from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, July 3, due to the fireworks show.
- Eastbound Main Street and eastbound Cotton Gin Road -- between Legacy Drive and Dallas Parkway -- will be closed to traffic at 10 p.m., Saturday, July 3, in order to move traffic out of Pizza Hut Park and Frisco Square following the festival and fireworks. In addition, the southbound exit ramp from the Dallas North Tollway to Cotton Gin Road will be closed at the same time. Both roads and the exit ramp should be open again by around midnight. During this closure, traffic heading east on Main Street should use Legacy Drive to reach either Eldorado Parkway or Lebanon Road to continue eastward. During this time, Frisco Square can be reached by turning onto Main Street from northbound or southbound Dallas Parkway.
- To minimize congestion after the fireworks, exit routes from Pizza Hut Park and Frisco Square will be limited in order to reduce the points where traffic flows try to cross each other. A map has been posted on the city’s website that shows these exit routes (go to www.friscotexas.gov and click MOVE ALONG on the right side of the home page). Depending on where they park, Freedom Fest visitors will be directed onto eastbound or westbound Main Street or north to Eldorado Parkway when they leave the Frisco Square/Pizza Hut Park area and then should follow the signs to reach the Dallas North Tollway or Preston Road.
