Overnight Fire Destroys Playground Equipment in Sterling Ranch Neighborhood

(August 22, 2013) A small playground was destroyed during an overnight fire in a common area of the Sterling Ranch neighborhood.

Dispatch received the call from a neighbor at 2:40 a.m. this morning.  Frisco firefighters arrived at the 5800 block of Shetland Circle at 2:47 a.m.  The fire was ‘under control’ at 2:50 a.m. An engine, an ambulance and a Battalion Chief responded to the scene.

Fire investigators say the fire was fueled by bark mulch, adding an area approximately 350 square feet was burned in addition to the playground ‘gym’ piece of equipment.

Investigators have interviewed persons involved.  Investigators with the Frisco Fire Marshal’s Office say they do not believe the overnight fire is connected to a series of fires that have occurred in west Frisco.

No one was hurt.  Damages are estimated at $20,000.  The small playground is owned by the homeowners’ association.

No other information is available at this time.
