(August 9, 2010) Get a fresh start to the new school year. Clear the clutter from the kids' rooms, the garage and all around the house before they head back to class. The summer Chunk Your Junk event will be held Saturday, August 14 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Environmental Collection Center, located at 6616 Walnut St. Entry is allowed from southbound First Street only. View map for directions to the facility.
As a reminder, new fees that took effect March 1, 2010, for recycling televisions and monitors apply during the Chunk Your Junk event. The offer to recycle one television set for free mentioned in the August 2010 Focal Point and in prior information posted about Chunk Your Junk events is no longer valid.
· $15 fee for television sets
· $10 fee for computer monitors
The fees reflect what the city is currently charged to recycle the items responsibly. “The volume of material coming in has increased such that we can no longer sustain the cost of proper recycling and disposal of the electronics,” said Pippa Couvillion, environmental services manager. “The monitors and televisions we collect are not shipped overseas. The lead and other components are extracted and recycled by a local, authorized vendor.”
A $40 Freon extraction fee is also charged for all appliances not tagged ‘Freon-free’. A valid driver’s license with a Frisco address and current City of Frisco water bill will be required for all household chemical, paint, electronic waste, and items requiring Freon extractions. The fees will be applied to your next utility bill. Payment is not accepted at the Environmental Collection Center.
The following items can be brought for safe disposal, recycling or donation. In order to reduce idling time, the items are listed in the order which they can be unloaded at the event. Please load your vehicle accordingly:
· Metal and appliances
· Yard waste, limbs, and untreated wood for mulching
· Fencing and other trash

· Refrigerators

· Prescription and over-the-counter medications
· Household chemicals, paint, gasoline, oil, batteries, pesticides
· Computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, television sets, other e-waste

A free paper shredding service will also be on site to safely recycle unwanted documents. There is a four-box limit per household, with box size not to exceed 12" W x 15.5" L x 10.5” H. We cannot accept commercial paperwork.
