(May 22, 2012) The City of Frisco is partnering with the Frisco Garden Club and Frisco VFW Post 8273 to host a Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 28 at 9 a.m. at Frisco Commons, 8000 McKinney Road.
The event features a traditional flag and wreath-laying ceremony, patriotic music from the Frisco Chorale and the Frisco Community Band, and participation from local scouts and Civil Air Patrol Cadets. Every year, the Frisco Rotary Club also assists with the observance by lining walkways with flags.
This year's guest speaker is Air Force Reserve Chaplain, Major Amy Hunt, of Frisco.
Parking at Frisco Commons is limited; however, additional parking is available at adjacent lots within walking distance. Organizers are encouraging observers to arrive early and bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating for the hour-long event.
The Frisco Garden Club and the local VFW post have been coordinating Memorial Day services in Frisco since 1994. The Frisco Garden Club purchased the original memorial urn in the 1940s. It is now located in the Veterans Memorial area of the award-winning Frisco Commons Park.
The rain-or-shine event is free and open to the public.
