(July 22, 2011) The main lanes of the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) will be closed in both directions between Gaylord Parkway and Headquarters Drive this weekend, plus the southbound Dallas Parkway frontage road will be closed between SH 121 and Headquarters Drive in Plano for most of the weekend. The DNT will close at 9:00 p.m. Friday night, July 22, and remain closed throughout the weekend, July 23-24. It will reopen at 5:00 a.m. Monday morning, July 25.
The section of southbound Dallas Parkway will be closed at the same time as the main lanes except that it will be reopened temporarily on Saturday, July 23, between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. The frontage road closure will result in a detour for southbound traffic that is different than it has been every other time that the DNT has been closed. NTTA has provided a map of this closure and the detour routes at the following link: http://library.constantcontact.com/download/get/file/1103529694561-274/SRT_Seg5_SRT-DNT_Closure+Map_072211R.pdf
During this closure, all traffic on northbound and southbound Dallas North Tollway will be diverted onto the Dallas Parkway frontage roads and must pass through several traffic signals before re-entering the DNT. Motorists will experience delay in both directions on Dallas Parkway between Warren Parkway in Frisco and Legacy Drive in Plano throughout the weekend. Motorists are urged to use an alternate route such as Legacy Drive, Parkwood Boulevard, or Preston Road.
Different Detour: Traffic on southbound Dallas North Tollway that has been diverted onto the southbound Dallas Parkway frontage road will also have to be detoured around the closure of the frontage road during most of the weekend (except Saturday between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.). When motorists on southbound Dallas Parkway reaches the intersection with SH 121, they will have the choice of turning right to reach Legacy Drive or turning left to reach Parkwood Boulevard. Detour routes will be posted on both roads to direct motorists back to the Dallas North Tollway. To avoid delay at the interchange, southbound traffic is also encouraged to detour away from the frontage road at a point further north by taking Warren Parkway west to Legacy Drive.
These road closures are part of NTTA’s interchange construction project. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone and to choose an alternate route in advance.
