(April 19, 2013) Saturday’s annual Earth Day celebration offers Frisco residents a great chance to clean up and clean out – while having a fun time with their family, friends and neighbors. Clean It and Green It and Chunk Your Junk are scheduled for the morning of April 20, and other Earth Day activities kick off around
Volunteers for Community Clean-Up Across Frisco should meet at IKEA before 9 a.m. to pick up t-shirts, clean-up supplies and location assignments. Adopt-A-Street participants must clean up their adopted areas. Pre-registered volunteers will meet at the pre-assigned clean-up area and receive supplies in advance.
Neighborhood organizations, schools and churches are expected to send groups of volunteers to help pick up litter and spruce up the city. The annual event also draws many individuals and families interested in making their community a more attractive place to live.
IKEA invites volunteers to return to the store after their clean-up is complete and enjoy a free lunch (while supplies last). Other family-friendly entertainment also is planned, including a meet-and-greet with Rufus the Recycling Dog and a raffle.
Later in the day, the Frisco Public Library and Environmental Services will host a movie in Council Chambers at City Hall. The movie will begin at 3 p.m. and be appropriate for all ages. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Chunk Your Junk
Coming just a few days after April 15, Chunk Your Junk and its shredding service will offer residents a chance to get rid of those piles of tax-related paperwork. Other people will have much larger loads in mind, such as appliances or yard equipment.
People with a Frisco utility billing account can donate, recycle or throw away common household items. The City of Frisco's Environmental Services, IKEA and Progressive Waste Solutions are sponsoring this year’s Chunk Your Junk. For a list of acceptable items and loading order, click here.
