The Public Art Board oversees the art selection process for the city’s public art program. The board makes final recommendations to the city council on all public art commissions and donations, serves on Ad Hoc Artists Selection Committees and approves artist design proposals.

Artists are selected by volunteer Artist Selection Committees (ASC) that review artist qualifications and proposals and ultimately make recommendations to the Public Art Board. A new, ad-hoc committee is formed for each project. All committee meetings are open to the public. You’re always welcome to attend!

If you’re interested in participating on an ASC, please fill out the form at the link below. While all ASC’s include one member of the Public Art Board, the other members may be comprised of local stakeholders, residents, or design professionals. No art background is required!

Each Selection Committee will meet one to four times, depending on the complexity of the project. Duties for these Committees may include reviewing scopes of work, reviewing artist materials, interviewing artists, reviewing community input, and ultimately making the recommendation to the Public Art Board. From the Public Art Board, artists’ contracts are sent to City Council for final approval.

The mission of the City of Frisco Public Art Program is to promote cultural, aesthetic, and economic vitality in Frisco by integrating the work of artists into public places, civic infrastructure and private development. In keeping with that mission the public art board initiated Frisco’s Art in the Atrium rotating art show at the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center. This facility with its open atrium design and tall limestone walls has proven to be an exceptional venue to showcase the artistic excellence of our local and regional artists.

Each fall the City of Frisco seeks two dimensional works of art by artist or arts organizations from the Denton and Collin county area for display in the cities “Art in the Atrium” series. This exhibition is part of the city’s ongoing exhibition program series at Frisco’s City Hall to showcase regional artistic endeavors and to encourage public dialogue, understanding and enjoyment of visual art. The program’s goal is to reflect the artistic excellence in and around Frisco and to promote the city’s cultural and economic initiatives.


Public Art contributes significantly to the image and the spirit of their city. It is the responsibility of the Public Art Board, on behalf of the citizens of Frisco to provide and approve all aspects related to the acceptance of public art of the highest quality that is appropriate to both location and use. Any party wishing to donate a gift of artwork to the City of Frisco should contact the Public Art Manager at the earliest possible time for a consultation on the review and acceptance process for donated artworks. An Art Selection Committee (ASC) will review all requests for donations and will make a recommendation to the full Public Art Board (PAB). The ASC committee may consist of at least one member of the PAB, local stakeholders, residents, artists, and design professionals. For a link the the city's donation policy click here.
