The Mayor's Youth Council (MYC) is a motivated group of teenagers who are responsible, accountable, reliable and outgoing. Applicants should be interested in learning about the City of Frisco government, and in doing so, help make the community better for teenagers through service projects.
The Mayor's Youth Council is for high school-aged teens who live inside the Frisco city limits or who attend a Frisco ISD high school. Each high school in Frisco has different ways of finding teens who want to apply for MYC. Contact your school counselor for more details. As well, Frisco teens who are home schooled or attend school in another city may also apply.
Former Mayor Mike Simpson and the Frisco City Council created the Mayor’s Youth Council in 2005 in order to incorporate the opinions of Frisco's young people into city policies. The first year MYC consisted of 10 members representing Frisco High School and Centennial High School. The council reflects Frisco's growth; and by the second year, it also included members from Wakeland High School and Liberty High School. The council in its third year consisted of 33 members representing six high schools: Frisco High School, Centennial High School, Wakeland High School, Liberty High School, Legacy Christian Academy, and Jesuit Preparatory in Dallas.
The Mayor’s Youth Council meets monthly to learn about city operations, events and opportunities to volunteer. Some of the departments we hear from are the Economic Development Corporation, Public Works, the Frisco Police Department and the Frisco Fire Department. The meetings are also an opportunity to discuss issues that are important to members and to form ideas that members can develop into projects that will benefit the greater teen community.
At the conclusion of the school year, the Mayor’s Youth Council presents a summary of the year’s accomplishments at a city council meeting. Additionally, the Mayor’s Youth Council attentively looks for solutions to help youth find opportunities to live a dynamic life in Frisco.
